Echoes of Altitude
"Echoes of Altitude" is a solo exhibition by Tormod Granheim. Through photography, he explores the mountain landscape, from the magnificent to the merciless. The works bring expedition experiences into dialogue with an artistic perspective on nature's timeless forces.
M35 is proud to invite you to a unique photo exhibition with this renowned adventurer and photographer. The exhibition takes the audience on a visual journey through some of the world's most spectacular mountain areas, captured through the lens of one of the most adventurous and experienced mountaineers of our time.
Granheim has spent decades encountering mountains – as a climber, skier, and photographer. He was the first to ski down Everest's North Face, and as the first Nordic climber, he ascended all 82 peaks over 4,000 meters in the Alps – an achievement that earned him the title Adventurer of the Year. The camera has followed him throughout, from expeditions in the Himalayas to quiet days in the Alps, and his works have been published in National Geographic and exhibited at the Munch Museum, among other places.
Today, photography stands as his primary form of expression, where nature, and especially the mountains, are both motif and resonance chamber. Kunzt.no has described Granheim as an artist who creates "some of the most exciting photo art we've seen in a while."
With Echoes of Altitude, the public is invited to experience the dual nature of the mountain – the beautiful and poetic, but also the dark and untamed. The exhibition shows how time, memories, and experience shape one's perspective, and how photography can encompass both documentation and interpretation.
The result is a series of images that not only depict the landscape but also reflect human experiences – an artistic dialogue between the mountain, time, and the observer.
