Oil in focus
Oil painting is a demanding art form. To achieve depth, form, and intensity, the artist must build up the painting in several layers. Since oil dries through oxidation, creating an oil painting takes a long time. Each layer of oil needs to dry for one to two weeks. Working with oil is also challenging because one must find the right balance between oil and pigments to achieve the desired color and effect in the painting. This makes every oil painting unique, while also giving it a sense of realism.
Da Vinci, Raphael, Van Gogh, and Rembrandt are among the most famous pioneers who developed oil painting techniques and material knowledge, which are still actively used today. At Gallery M35, we have a selection of artists who use oil in their paintings, such as Syver Lauritzen, Bjørge Rødfjell, Kasia Przado, and Lea Alstad
