Torkild Iversen
Torkild Iversen (born 1973) is a Norwegian artist with a background as a graphic designer and art director. After many years where art accompanied him alongside his work, five years ago he chose to focus entirely on his artistic practice. Today, he works from his studio on Jeløya outside Moss, where he paints works that explore the atmosphere, mysticism, and fairytale-like quality of the Norwegian mountains.
Iversen's paintings are characterized by the blue hour, twilight, and the magical presence of nature. He paints realistic mountain motifs, but interpreted through darkness, so that those who know the mountains can still recognize themselves in the landscape. His winter mountains are created with traditional figurative technique in oil on canvas or wood, where monochromatic blue tones and earth colors dominate. Contrasts and values are used to emphasize the mountains' weight, depth, and the clear tension between soft snow and hard rock formations. The result is paintings that convey calm, silence, and an almost timeless power.
Material quality is central to Iversen's work. Everything from canvas and paint to the frames – which he builds by hand – is of a very high standard. His production is deliberately small, and each individual oil painting is created with precision, care, and great artistic thoroughness.
