About the painting:
Snøhetta in the blue hour depicts one of Norway's most iconic mountain ranges. Snøhetta is located in Dovrefjell and is the highest mountain outside Jotunheimen – a motif that holds a very special place in Norwegian cultural history. The mountain is mentioned, among other things, in the Constitution through the phrase "united and loyal until Dovre falls," which underscores its strong symbolic significance.
In the painting, the artist has included the DNT cabin Snøheim, which stands alone at the foot of the mountain. The warm light from the cabin contrasts with the cool blue landscape, capturing the moment just before darkness descends over the mountain formations. The motif highlights both the serenity, power, and characteristic light that defines Snøhetta during the blue hour – a central quality in Norwegian landscape art.
