Beyond
In the exhibition "Beyond…", two artists meet who, each in their own way, explore humanity's relationship with nature, silence, and what lies beyond the immediately visible. Through paintings and watercolors, Mona Eckhoff Sørmo and Torkild Iversen invite the viewer to look inwards – towards horizons, moods, and experiences that lie beyond the concrete.
Torkild Iversen's paintings are characterized by the blue hour, twilight, and nature's magical presence. He works figuratively and realistically, but filters mountain motifs through darkness and shifting light, making the landscapes appear both recognizable and enigmatic. The winter mountains are built up with traditional painting techniques in oil on canvas or wood, where monochrome blue tones and earth colors dominate. Through subtle contrasts and values, the mountains' weight and depth are emphasized, as well as the tension between soft snow and hard mountain formations. The result is quiet, powerful landscapes that convey a sense of timeless tranquility.
Mona Eckhoff Sørmo works across several expressions – painting, drawing, photography, installation, and illustration – and her artistic practice investigates human existence in encounter with nature's larger contexts. In the series Underveis (En Route), she explores humanity in encounter with the infinite and untouched. The wandering figure in the landscape becomes a metaphor for life's journey: we move alone or together, lightly or with heavy baggage, always towards a horizon that both beckons and remains out of reach.
Together, the artists create a space for reflection. Where Iversen's landscapes convey nature's quiet weight and dark light, Eckhoff's works point towards humanity's inner journey. In their encounter, a poetic landscape emerges – a place between the outer and the inner, between nature and experience, between what we see and what lies beyond.
