Maren Morstad
Maren Morstad is a Norwegian artist with a background in digital media from Hyper Island in Sweden. After graduating, she established herself internationally as an illustrator and animator, creating visual projects for global players such as Google, Nike, Microsoft, Dell, Amazon, and Coca-Cola. She has also collaborated with Yoko Ono and received several awards for both commercial projects and her award-winning short films.
For fifteen years, Morstad was based in London and New York, where she worked as Creative Director before returning to Norway. Today, she has a studio at Fossekleiva Kultursenter, where she develops her paintings.
Her works are characterized by a precise and thoroughly developed expression, where every element in the composition is built up with great care. Morstad creates works that invite slow contemplation both up close and from a distance: up close, the surface reveals unexpected details and hidden structures, while the layers of acrylic on linen form a clear spatial depth when viewed from a distance.
She primarily works with acrylic on linen in very thin, carefully applied layers that gradually build light, texture, and depth. Through this process, she brings something living out of the raw material, and the motifs emerge layer by layer until they clearly stand out in the space.
