Arild Askeland

Arild Askeland (1954) is a well-established Norwegian visual artist from Stavanger.

His artistic journey already began when he left the vocational school Bergeland in Stavanger. Pursuing an art career after a background in creative professions is a path many choose, and Askeland is no exception. Arild's artistic interests lie in exploring space, form, color and texture. He allows himself to be fascinated by how these elements can interact to create dynamic and visual experiences. Askeland is particularly attracted to abstract art, where he has the opportunity to express complex ideas and feelings.

Askeland is recognized as a well-established artist. Arild's contribution to the abstract art world has led to his work being shown in a number of exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, as well as a strong appreciation among art collectors and art enthusiasts.

Arild's motifs can be found in the architecture, on facades in the outer space, and in the spaces between these. He himself says that "I experience my work as a tension between architecture, sculpture and abstract art".

When he works with his pictures in the studio, Arild finds himself in a rather introverted mode, without any time pressure. The motivation comes when the images find their forms and emerge, so that he can use this energy to move forward.

Arild's pictures are not in any way commentaries on art history, codes to the world of symbols or philosophical considerations. They are more of an experience without words. A label Arild himself likes to identify himself with is a "minimalist abstract artist".
