Arild Askeland
Arild Askeland (1954) is a well-established Norwegian visual artist from Stavanger.
His artistic journey began when he graduated from the vocational school Bergeland in Stavanger. Pursuing an art career after a background in creative professions is a path many choose, and Askeland is no exception. Arild's artistic interests lie in exploring space, form, color, and texture. He is fascinated by how these elements can interact to create dynamic and visual experiences. Askeland is particularly drawn to abstract art, where he has the opportunity to express complex ideas and emotions.
Askeland is recognized as a well-established artist. Arild's contributions to the abstract art world have led to his work being displayed in numerous exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, as well as a strong appreciation among art collectors and enthusiasts.
Arild's motifs are found in architecture, on exterior facades, and in the spaces between them. He states that "I experience my work as a tension between architecture, sculpture, and abstract art."
When working on his paintings in the studio, Arild is in a rather introverted mode, free from time pressure. His motivation comes when the images find their forms and emerge, allowing him to use this energy to move forward.
Arild's paintings are in no way comments on art history, codes to the world of symbols, or philosophical reflections. They are more an experience without words. A label Arild himself likes to identify with is "minimalist abstract artist."
