Norwegian art and Norwegian artists

Gallery M35 is a Norwegian art gallery with many Norwegian artists in its portfolio.

What is Norwegian art? From ancient rock carvings to today's modern expression, Norwegian art has always been a source of inspiration and reflection. The Norwegian nature has often been a great inspiration, for example Johan Christian Dahl in the early 19th century, one of the first to really paint the Norwegian landscapes in a romantic way. Or Kitty Kielland, known for her scenic paintings. Not least Edvard Munch, who painted the iconic picture "The Sun" in 1911.

In the 19th century, Norway experienced a flourishing of artistic movements, such as romanticism and realism. Artists such as Adolph Tidemand, Hans Gude and Christian Krohg found inspiration in folk life and the nature around them. Their work helped to shape the Norwegian art tradition that is still relevant to this day.

When it comes to contemporary art, Norwegian art is a hub for creativity and innovation within the art world today. Norwegian artists explore a range of media and themes, from painting and sculpture to installation, performance and digital art. Contemporary artists such as Bjarne Melgaard, Marianne Heske and Matias Faldbakken challenge conventions and explore new ideas and expressions in their works. Read more about contemporary art here .
